Could those having problems with synaptic please open a terminal and type

sudo debian synaptic
and post the output here?

Here's what I get, doing this from LXDE Terminal:

$ sudo debian synaptic
sudo: debian: command not found

UPDATE

I found that I can get Synaptic to open if I do the following in LXDE terminal:

$ sudo ./usr/sbin/synaptic
