It shows that if you're taking crap pictures its because the guy who is using it hasn't got a clue on how to set a camera up. I get fantastic pictures from my device, even from an aircraft in low lighting outside. I often take macro pictures and they are stunning. Up against a digital camera, some pictures look so much better. Admittedly, yes there are some features missing from the camera software (will be added in PR1.2 it seems), and it isn't great for taking pictures in complete darkness, but no camera is without a massive flash on it. As for the iphone, the camera is crap, always has been and always will be, as are the HTC phones, and toshiba tg01. Its not much cop unless you've got blinding day light, thats why the iphone is so thin and featureless in that respect. It uses a cheap sensor so that apple could maintain their fashion accessory.
