MeeGo was announced at least 5 months after the N900 was released. I suppose that is "weeks" but by no means was it close. Additionally, it is likely there will be a MeeGo release of some sort for the N900, but it will not be a direct upgrade path (indeed, it cannot due to the drastic shift of the underlying OS.)

I am so tired of hearing comments about how the N900 is not primarily a mobile phone. How many of these snooty and blinkered users can honestly say that they use a secondary phone to support their N900?
Apparently people who don't see the N900 as being primarily a phone are crazy? I personally use mine as a phone and it works great. It's definitely not primarily a phone though.

Not many. Therefore the device is clearly a phone in it's primary form , albeit a well specified phone.
Not really. In its primary form it has subsumed telephony into an application, retaining core functionality of the radio for data comms.

For Nokia not have supported MMS is simply inexcusable... whether they believe that the market should be pushed toward email or not. My friends don't know about these issues and why should they? They continue to send me MMS without my even knowing it!
It is neither Nokia nor your friends fault that MMS is a terrible spec, and Nokia's intentions with this device (taking advantage of the primary data connection, while allowing for call handling) were well adhered to.

Unfortunate that the N900 was not the device for you, as it appears to not be the device for a number of people.
