It's literally ridiculous.
Guess I'm not clear on the ridiculous part-- electronic devices are highly susceptible to water.

That said, I know of people who accidentally ran their phones through the washing machine and later got them to work. In cases like that prompt action with a warm hair dryer can do wonders. The longer it sits with any moisture, the less likely it will work properly again.
