I was like you until about a month ago and I decided to fiddle with the twitter plugin for conversations and now find it invaluable. i don't really use it to tweet my own tweeter so to speak, but I do use it to research what is going on with various technologies around me.

It is currently the most up-to-the-second news medium out there, IMO.

If there is something I want to keep up with I now go to Conversations and click Send IM To using twitter account #<whatever> which basically searchs all of twitter for that tag.
