I had a lot of dependency problems installing it as it is.

Are you sure its unrelated with PyQt?
I think someone said it works with qt and c++.
Have you tried switching to PySide?

And another question.
Is there a way to customise the original qt dialog?
To hide some of the unnecessary stuff.
