I had reformatted my internal memory earlier in the evening through the USB method.

But did you download the plug-in AND activated it in Canola?

I use a combination of other applications (like Vagalume, Streamtuner, Panucci, etc (see my signature line

).

Btw, to gain root access (in a shell) the easiest way I've found is to use http://maemo.org/downloads/product/OS2008/rootsh/

The normal disclaimer stands though: Don't do weird stuff in root unless you know what the weird stuff does.
