I've had strange things happen with the clock with auto update several times. A month or two back during the time change, it changed the Chicago time correctly but not the LA time (local). Another time in northern CA, the time changed at 2am and it advanced the time by 2 hours so my alarm went off at 8am but it was really 6am, very annoying. The strange thing was I was in off line mode. A friend had his AT&T change time on him also (I was on T-Mobile but in offline mode).
