i tried changing the smtp setting and still no good...
i'm not sure what the problem is since i configured entourage on my ibook to check my gmail using the same configuration.

logically, the smtp setting should not prevent me from accessing the pop server at least, but i can't even log in at this point. i'm giving up for the time being... thanks for trying.
