I can't imagine Apple will keep the app number advantage for long as Android continues to solidify their position. Especially if Apple keeps their draconian policies over the app store (and programming languages). For now they have the advantage of numbers.

Out of all the other competitors I think the Meego/Symbian combination is probably the only feasible competitor Android will have for dominant marketshare if Nokia positions it correctly (unlikely) and if any other company is still interested in making devices that will run Meego or Symbian (again probably unlikely as they are taking to long before Android grabs all the hardware makers). Everyone else will likely end up with smaller groups of marketshare.

We'll probably see the same thing happen in the tablet space too.

And it's no surprise Apple's the most profitable per unit. That's always been the way they operate. Or at least as long as I've remembered (Post-Steve Jobs returning). Sell one piece of hardware (tied in with their OS) at a high premium. (granted there are variations such as storage space, or different specs in laptops).
