The StarFox cartridge originally contained an extra custom RISC graphics acceleration chip called "SuperFX" by Nintendo.
This allowed the other wise impossible task of multiple polygon rendering on the SNES which allows a game like StarFox to be rendered in real time.
Current SNES emulators (at least all the ones that I've played with) don't emulate the "SuperFX" chip's functions,
EDIT: DrNokSnes DOES emulate the SuperFX chip!
so games like StarFox play in the same way they would on a normal SNES without a SuperFX chip, which is to say not well at all with frequent freeze ups and polygons vanishing the moment the abilities of the default SNES graphics co-processor are exceeded.
Other games which utilized the SuperFX chip and will therefore be less then fully playable under DrNokSNES include:
* Dirt Trax FX [1]
* Stunt Race FX [2] (North America/PAL) / Wild Trax (Japan)
* Vortex [3]
* Dirt Racer [4] (PAL)
* Doom [5]
* Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island
* Winter Gold / FX Skiing [6]
