The N900 seems to suffer from a hardware fault, that lessens the volume of the earpiece, if it doesn't cut off sound entirely. Now a hardware problem can't be fixed, but maybe the problem could be lessened by someone finding a way to boost the default volume?

Yes this is the problem though some have stated it to be a hardware issue and some as software issues but no solution yet mentioned apart from sending it to the service center and getting the speaker replaced which I do not think is the issue actually.

So anyone who has been able to play with the volume control from terminal please share how to do it.
