Well done. Now, if you had just reached this point BEFORE you made the topic, it would have been perfect.

Let me see if I can summarize it:

1) abill notices many people can't read the warnings about not installing programs that are still being developed, and some of those people are borking their n900s to the point that they need a reflash + restore from backup (a tedious yet simple process.)

2) abill decides to make a post.

3) everyone points out his post, while true, is roughly the same as pointing out the sky is blue

4) DOGPILE!

5) abill gets upset and yells at the mods, then goes off in a huff

Did I get that right?

Maybe this analogy will help: Apple doesn't want you to jailbreak your iPhone. Once you jailbreak your iPhone its possible to install stuff that will mess it up to the point where you must do the two finger salute and put it into DFU mode, and then reflash it in iTunes. This is a Bad User Experience, which Apple tries to protect the User from... but since the user jailbroke, one would hope they understand that.

An n900 is, from this perspective, already jailbroken. You can install stuff that will put it into an unusable state. If you're uncomfortable with that, stick to the non-development/test repositories (you know, like it ships out of the box to you) and you'll be fine.

Oh, and make backups onto storage cards. The backup/restore system really does work.
