This was (is?) available from the Nokia Beta Labs site, and was a proprietary tech demo from Nokia that was made available some time ago, with no word about it that I've heard since. As such, the community cannot port it, and unless Nokia is using the technology to work on something they haven't told us about, I'd be surprised if we see anything like this for the N900.
That said, this technology is not exactly new, and I'm sure researchers and/or hobbyists have created Open Source code that could be adapted for this. Poke around on SourceForge or similar, and see if you find something like this that isn't closed - if you do, then link it here, and see if someone wants to make it into a nice Maemo app.
