Europeans aren't stupid. They've had superior cell phone technology in Europe (and Asia) for years now and they are always about 5 years ahead of the US in that particular technical arena.
I know. I lived there for the last thirteen years.
You also have to remember that Apple has to abide by not only EU law but by each individual country's laws as well, and that can lead to them selling either a completely different iPhone from the one today or to not selling one in Europe at all.
How many of you in Europe are still waiting on iTunes TV shows or movies? Exactly.
And after the DRM & iTunes debacles Apple has had in Europe recently, I wouldn't blame them one bit if they just flat-out told Europe to "fsck off" when it comes to the iPhone.
You might have a point about the HSDPA. The battery issue is moot. The sales figures for the iPod have shown, people will live with not being able to replace the battery. You are correct that Europeans are more sophisitcated than the US when it comes to mobile telephony. I have been living here for the last 20 year in Germany, Belgium, France (yuck), and currently Finland, so I know the mentality here when it comes to phones. I have no doubts that Apple will do what it has to do to meet the EU regulations regarding selling phones in the different EU territories. This is how it is done, pretty much the same way Nokia and SE do it globally as well. The good thing about this is that the European phone will more than likely be better than what was initially offererd in the US.
