When you turn on wifi, they beacon whatever access points they have connected to. Macs, linux, and windows. The first one is my macbook pro, the second one is my Nokia, the third? I think it's my neighbor. Let me clarify that statement. Macs and linux machines don't create ad-hoc networks like windows does, they will beacon their network ssid's though.
