Can you explain this please?

I'm a 'not fix if not broke' kind (which is one reason I'm annoyed that I let the update run when it wasn't broken), so it doesn't mean a 100% to me.
I know you can flash firmware in say your router etc, but not 100% on to what you are referring to do.
