Yakking about this on IRC led me to believe others might benefit from a walkthrough on this...It took me a bit to figure out the first time through and here I sit with all the notes and webpages in front of me, so I may as well!
So! Here we go.
Gizmo offers a pay-for "CallIn" service as well that had better sound quality in my tests. But who can pass up free?!
http://www.ipkall.com
offers free pstn to sip forwarding with a washington state number. Go there and sign up. Once you're asked to configure your account, do so as follows:
If you don't know your 1747_______ number, dial ** from within Gizmo to hear a weird voice read it off to you.
Once this is set up, you'll have to wait about an hour for the number to activate. After that, test your number out.. You should be able to receive completely free inbound calls now! Calls in from this number look like SIP calls in the log, sort of:
The first ten digits serve as caller ID. Maybe that's standard SIP faire...I'm still pretty new to this game
May this be much easier for you than it was for me to figure out the first time around !!
