And the most amazing thing is that they are happy for us to spend time and money testing it for them and then dump us. It wouldn't be too bad if Maego had had a good run and built up a big range of apps, support ect. That is not the case though. If Apple did this it would make headlines!

This is where it starts with me... Who is the us you are referring to in your post?
(emphasis mine)

Whenever I see these all inclusive pronouns I get annoyed. I think the poster is not being genuine and instead looking for rabble to rouse.

Nokia didn't leave me anywhere. They provided a device that is future proof until a new technology comes along that the hardware can't support.

Look around and you will see kernels being compiled and new functions being explored in photography to name just one use. I recently compiled my complete record collection in 192 bit WMA Pro, loaded it on my N900 and carry all 15 + gig of it with me everywhere I go. Nokia provided the hardware to enable me to squirt it to any FM receiver I find but with this communities involvement right here in this forum, we were able to enhance this function to the point where I can sit in a bar and play my music through their sound system wireless like. One bartender (Thanks Ed) went as far as to buy a Nokia charger and he keeps it behind the bar for when I come in.

As more and more of us are doing things like this with Nokia supplied hardware, it is putting enormous pressure on additional community developed enhancements and they will continue to come.

Just wait till you see what the community will do with the enhanced search that Nokia recently provided across the platform with PR 1.2

You say you want to be educated. Why don't you start >> HERE << then, instead of requesting that someone provide you with that education.

And this isn't Apple. If you bought a device because you wanted everything provided for you and you don't have the time or energy to learn and do it for yourself, that's OK by me but if you bought the N900 for this, then you bought the wrong device... simple azat.

With the N900 you can make your own dang applications, compile your own dang kernel, and load, view, and share your own dang content. If you could do that with any Apple product, that would make headlines too!

Good luck with your quest for an education on this subject. There is plenty of free material available on the maemo.org sites that you can access from the navigation bar at the top of this very page you are looking at.

If after that you need any further clarification or help, feel free to PM me and I will try my best or at least point you in the right direction. Until then, please leave me out of any "us" that you feel you are speaking for.
