I mean look at it, if this thing works to ANY reasonable level with decent (doesnt need to be perfect) compatibility, this increases the utility of the n900 by MULTIPLES. The n900 can now be used now for things it couldnt be before. If it gets to a decent complete state, it should be an official component "endorsed" by Nokia like fMMS.

On a "value" to user basis, I am hard pressed to think of ANYTHING softwarewise that can provide more value to the user on the existing n900 hardware. And this is not function specific, it really benefits ALL users.

"App" or not, it is code written by open source devs - I think it should be eligible. But again if Nokia decides to exclude this on a technicality, then they are REALLY brain dead as this is a good selling point for the n900.
