I had the same problem - self restarts after enabling the oc kernel (also at the default setting 600Mhz) after the OTA Update for PR1.2.
What I had to do is to reflash the device with the PR1.2, installing the oc kernel, configure the max frequency in /etc/pmconfig and the n900 was able to run at 900Mhz without problems.
