most of the files/directories on the system with the exception of /media/mmc* and /home/user are owned by the 'root' user; and in order to have write access to /opt, which allows you to download that binary and create symbolic links, you need to be the 'root' user (aka superuser). - which can be accesses by rootsh's 'root' command or 'sudo su' in some circumstances.
