You are quite right, of course. While it may seem obvious, since we are assuming the guide/howto is for clueless users, it would be nice if it was very clear that this is a method for:
a)"installing" the Linux-flasher under windows using VMware and a Linux image;
b)gaining root.

Of course it could be extended to reflash the device with newer images or entering USB-host mode. I wonder if this is still needed for novice Windows users now that there is a Windows-based flasher available?
