On the subject of styluses. How about using a stomp for smudging and such. Maybe its to soft but maybe worth trying out.

Hi! It is Stomp what I use in one of the my styluses..

btw! 20min at saving time is not correct and wrong at least my N900 and MyPaint saves big painting quite fast.. It is true that it may take while when saving big files.. but example when I save "5megapixel N900 photo" which I am edited with MyPaint it takes only max. half minute. It depends a lot how many layers u have.. and memory of N900.
