Voted and read the descriptions of the problem there and found them identical to my experience.
It is def NOT tmobile as none of my other phones have exhibited the same behavior. If I manually reset the connection using the 2g/3g applet it will pick up the network again right away. It seems that it just doesn't search as often as it should - battery saving feature maybe?
