seriously, thx everyone for the concern. my training has taught me to leave quickly if a gun or knife is present. however, i am trained to disarm blades, but that would be a last resort. on the other hand, retractable batons are quite easy to carry (and legal). two batons in concert can be devasting. guns, again, are a different matter. on another note, the police officer who helped us had some really good ways to protect the house. i think i'll try some of her suggestions before installing lexan windows.

anyway, keep an eye on your tablet.
Concealed-carry permit (CCP): ~$100
Nokia N800: ~$399
Para-Ordinance .45 ACP Warthog: ~$700
Box of Powerball .135 grain .45 ammunition: ~$25
Shooting a crackhead who tries to rob you of your precious N800 at knifepoint? Priceless.

And NOTHING is "legal" to carry concealed on or about your person in any state of the union other than a handgun with a valid concealed-carry permit.
Especially a baton. Not a knife, not even a pair of brass knuckles.
You learn this and other fun facts when you take an actual concealed-carry class, which is mandatory to get a CCP.

I used to take martial arts until I was 17 and joined the Army.
Then I learned how worthless all of it was against firearms.
Not to mention by the time the martial arts guy even looks to make a move you've already shot him twice.
Kind of hard to kick a gun away or even run when you've suddenly sprouted a sucking chest wound.
While I'm sure martial arts is a great exercise and might impress a chick or two, this is no longer the Bruce Lee 60's era of fewer guns and more knives.
And that's a damn shame.
Everyone in America today carries a gun. Yee-haw!
