While extensions are usually OS & architecture agnostic (XUL or javascript or whatever), add-ons are native binary programs. Since it's just another program, it has to be compiled for each architecture and operating system (and browser, but most of them use the Netscape plugin API).

So I think we basically need a version specifically for N900, or at least generically for Maemo5 (since there's only one device N900 and Maemo5 are basically interchangable here in my mind).

I don't think a MeeGo version would work. There are questions like will MeeGo be binary compatible with Maemo5 using same libraries etc? And will MeeGo even use MicroB as the browser? Intel or ARM MeeGo version? etc.

To me, the lack of any comment by Nokia is all the indication we need that it will never come to N900.
