Sounds like there was a power surge and your tablet got hit with a nasty amount of extra power. Usually, there's safe-guards in place to prevent this sort of thing from happening, but I'm guessing not in the event it is connected via USB.

I hope that's not your issue, but if it is, I'll bust out a Bugle Horn and play "Taps" in honor of it's death.
