the disconnects and inability to reconnect might be an issue specific for ubuntu and mobile broadband (through usb). i've encountered similar issues on a machine dual booting ubuntu 10.04 and xp. only on ubuntu does the connection die within a day, and refuse to reconnect unless the dongle is reinserted.
