I don't know if it is the case with you but I just found a bug that can cause these symptoms. I just reported it to the "qt mobility" team but it may actually be with the "standard contacts" application.

When you create a new contact on the contacts application you get a "cell field" by default but when saved it is not recognized as "Cell" by qt. If you edit it later on, change the type to something else and change back to "Cell" it will start showing on MyContacts as Cell and you should get the SMS button. Also if you add a new "cell" phone number to any existing contact it should show fine on MyContacts.

Please let me know if after adding a new cell to an existing contact if it shows as Cell phone on MyContacts.
