I think the current shortage of iPhone 4 in the market is probably intentional; because they take into account the possibility of a recall.

But I also think that if they conduct a recall without a ready replacement, it will be one of the 'least successful' recall in the history: that many people will opt to just 'live with it', put on the bumper or to sell it off at a profit to someone else.
