I ordered a t-mobile sim (cost $7.48 with tax and included $3.34 of connection minutes). I switched to sidekick plan. I had already installed tor (and I upgraded to the latest version of maemo). I switched the apn to hiptop.t-mobile.com and voila, Internet access over t-mobile for $1 a day. Even better - I can ssh to my home Linux box and vpn into my Linux dtv and recorder!
