Depends, was it implemented to brick the device? It can be reprogrammed via JTAG, so it'll do whatever the developer tells it.

Can you imagine the flurry of lawsuits for selling a device that potentially self-destructs? That wouldn't just be bad, it'd be so unceasingly stupid all other sources of stupidity in the world would be washed away.

It is designed to be reprogrammable on the fly. They could easily use it to brick the device, but I suspect they are employing it simply to disable the device in some fashion, reversible via a restore operation by the user. I suspect even Motorola realizes that destroying a device because the user does something they don't like would open them up to lawsuits.

This continues to be crap though, as does their reasoning for implementing this lock down.
