I suspect they had their plates full enough already and were eager to get their first release candidate out into the world.

I agree that targeting an open source dng reader on an open source platform is well worthwhile, but hey.. it's not as if Camera RAW has a small install base even if Linux isn't among the supported operating systems, so releasing for that target first and then patching in support for other implementations seems quite reasonable to me.

A chicken emerging fully formed could be messy.. better that the tidy little egg arrives first
