as what i've mentioned, the n900 being fully unlocked MAY be one of the reasons.
when i was still in the philippines, there are phones that are from abroad that my relatives sent, (one of them is a blackberry) all of those phones are supported by service providers (after being unlocked) except for the SIM Services.
hmmmmm.....or.....try looking on your "Settings" there might be an option for SIM card. (maybe under "General" if not, i have no idea.
