I guess it's a question if you believe in logic or feelings.
If you trust logic, science and maths, go with option 1).
If you are more of a touchyfeely guy, believe in religion, ghosts, and/or reality distortion fields, go with option 2).

So, there should be one good solution out there for everyone.
