I've asked about partial sponsorships, too, particularly for MeeGo Greeters. No definitive answer yet... I will keep trying.

That's exactly the sort of thing I'm thinking. It seems wrong to ask for the full sponsorship for non-technical people like end-users, greeters, etc. But at the same time, some contribution might make it possible for people who otherwise can't afford the full cost. (Like me.)
