Yes. As it turns out, the hardware supports it, but the drivers are not proper...

Yep... BME (Battery Management Entity) is closed source... because of this come some of the problems. Actually some people were trying to reverse-engineer it (with disassemblers and stuff).

The general opinion is that Nokia didn't open source it because they were ashamed of the poor quality of the code.
