If you are planning to use only Kagu, in my experience it does install the necessary Python runtime libraries automagically if you have Base repository listed in your repository list. I have installed Kagu several times (after fresh OS flash) in the past few weeks and it always worked like a charm...

The downside is that if you do this, you'll not see Python in your installed applications. But if you go to Xterm and type python, then you'll see that it is indeed installed.

Worth giving a try. (But I haven't tried this with the LATEST firmware.)
