Some of the 'hot' things at this point, things which will break many of the rules and overturn many of the assumptions...
Wireless USB (The end of wires. Look for it very soon in as an added capability in all the wireless access devices)
802.11n (HDTV-enabling throughput)
Maturity of Network Discovery tools and their integration into applications (avahi.org, for example)
The triumph of the Free Software operating system & tools approach to device design
Nextgen Silicon (TI's OMAP, its 1710 is in the 770) Dramatic improvements coming all the time.
China, it's exploding role and influence in all things tech, especially devices, touchscreen displays, etc..
There's no end to it, really. It's the end of the PC era - the beginning of the network device era, if the defining characteristic is who is doing what with what and where are they doing it. Nintendo DS, Sony PSP, Nokia 770, iPod, etc. ... Anyone who doubts it can just look up the sales numbers on the net and argue with the numbers, in vain. Apple's ipod business has propelled its capital worth beyond Dell.
