I guess I have to wait and hope that the price for the N800 will drop in a while. Although 350€ are within my budget I am just not willing to pay so much if the tablet costs only 232$ in the USA.

Do you anyway have an idea what exactly prevents your US tablet from connecting to European chan. 12 or 13 WiFis ? Is it a software or hardware problem?
Wouldn't it be possible to simply "Format C" and install a German OS on it ? I cannot really imagine that it is the hardware which does not permit the US tablet to connect to chan 12 or 13 WiFis.
