I think you should atleast talk to the nokia carepoint before you do anything. Ask them which parts are shot and how much they will charge to fix it. Then make the decison to turn it in or fix it yourself.

Do you know if the touch screen is broken too?

It sounds to me like its the LCD screen thats broken, like you said.

I wouldnt know how hard it is to change the display, though.
