I also had some problems using xbindkeys as I described earlier in this thread - some special characters simply couldn't be accessed. But xbindkeys is still useful for fullscreen toggle and the like.

What I'm doing is exactly what groxx suggested: I use a heavily modified rx51 file in debbie. There is also a page in the Maemo wiki on that.
