In short: Yes.

I reflashed. Then I set out to get visudo working. I installed vim-tiny from
ftp://ftp.debian.org/debian/pool/main/v/vim/

then linked vim-tiny to /usr/bin/editor

at that point visudo now works.

Fun times.
