I agree, Rdesktop works really, really well, especially at home inside my firewall. I can connect to my home network remotely using my Sprint Treo 700p as my internet connection as well (or WiFi at Starbucks, etc). The speed isn't as impressive as when using within the home network but its still amazing to me this works at all
In order to hit your PC remotly behind a router/firewall you have to forward port 3389 to the IP address of the machine you want to connect to. On my Linksys router you do that in the Applications section and then enter 3389 (RDP port) in both from and to, and select TCP. Then when connecting remotly you have to enter your external IP address (assigned my your internet provider). If your service uses dynamic IP, then its better to use something like DYNDNS which gives you an address (i.e. yourname.dyndns.org) that you use instead of the ip address, and it keeps track of your current IP address (Linksys routers have a setting to automatically update DynDNS everytime your provider changes your IP address).
One question I have is where can I find a listing of what the N800 hardkeys do in Rdesktop?
Thanks,
JT
