I would either buy a dedicated unit (defeats the purpose of having such a smart device), or keep an eye on nitdroid. As bunason said, it works very well. Far less frustrating than using Ovi Maps. Frankly, I'm considering removing Maps and its data, and just boot over to nitdroid for my navigation needs.
What is your source for this? If none of the above will work on MeeGo on the N900 there seems little point in ever installing on the device in the first place?

I also read recently there was a suggestion from Nokia if Ovi maps was a simple post on to meego we would get it (however we have of course heard that about meamo in the past!)
