My thoughts are, if I buy a Tab this Holiday season, how badly will it be out of date next year by other Android competitors in terms of RAM and CPU speed? I understand that technology always advances and if you wait for the next big thing your always going be waiting. But there's gotta be some buffer between that and feeling like you really should have waited.

Edit: And looking at Android.. is Qik (maybe Fring) really all the video chat functions in Android? No video thru Google Talk? I know none in Skype.
Indeed. The competition is looming and there *will* be better available shortly after the Tab is released. By better, I mean devices who offer certain elevated specs and may better appeal to certain buyers. For example, those looking for a WiFi only tablet may want to consider a Tegra 2 device that will *spank* the Tab in terms of general performance. Some tablets even have higher MP cameras, or Pixel Qi screens, etc.

If specs is what you crave, the I would wait, but the infancy of this market is such that devices will be evolving at a breakneck pace, so you may be waiting for the next-best thing for a while. It all depends upon what you want and where you're willing to settle -- but you know this .

Even iDevices are iterated on a yearly basis, so this years model has a time limit until it becomes last-years model.

Personally, I quite like the Tabs capabilities, performance, and general balance, and as such it appeals to me. While other devices would most certainly offer faster speeds, or larger storage, I don't know if these changes would be worth waiting for especially considering that there is a high probability that there would be a compromise made in some other areas (eg. battery life, DLNA software, weight, etc) -- no two models of devices are the exactly the same.

As for video chat: I'm not sure, but I think that the apps for this feature are in short supply. I know that Qik and Fring do it, as does sipddroid, but the latter is hardly a consumer grade solution. I suspect that google will upgrade Talk to have this feature for Android and integrate it into their suite of applications. Of course this is just intuitive speculation.
