Apple only patented the gestures AFAIK. Multitouch capability rests with the inventors of capacitive touchscreen. Resistive is not capable of multitouch (although stantum have done it).

On the other hand you can only use your fingers or an inaccurate stylus with capacitive. No more painting/drawing and you'd have to zoom in to press small buttons in websites. If you live in cold areas, you can't wear gloves.

I prefer resistive. Pressure sensitivity and precision (thanks to the stylus) are bigger advantages than multitouch and a little more sensitivity. N900's sensitivity is quite good. Lack of stylus will prevent such games like Mystery Case Files, which is awesome on the DS. Lack of multitouch can be compensated with a keyboard.

The perfect screen would be a touchscreen that can be used with any object, has the capacitive's sensitivity and multitouch. But until that day, I prefer resistive. I hope some future smartphone (or mobile computer if you prefer) will be resistive (or hopefully use stantum's screen).

I hope future devices will be able to be used by a precise stylus. Everything is capacitive nowadays. The resistive screen is one of the things that made me choose the N900.
