When testing what you just wrote i get
sh: openfile: Permission denied
and with chmod i get operation not permitted.

I am lost when it comes to terminal stuff, so what am I doing wrong here?

install rootsh from app manager

then when you open terminal type root to gain root access

warnings about being root go here

then you can do the chmod +x command
