Yes, it does matter, because it's important for it to be made known how the N900 doesn't even really belong in the same league as the smartphones (the N900 isn't even a smartphone, really, more a handheld computer). I mean, those of us who have a Maemo device know why it is superior, and it's not just rhetoric or fans cheering on their favourite.

But people outside the circle don't realize that, so they just see it as a smartphone (kinda like seeing a desktop computer as a really expensive typewriter). I think it does the world more good to let people know: hey, you're missing out on something awesome. And if the N900 doesn't win, then it would be a real pity when someone shopping around for a device just says, "I glanced at the FoneArena Smartphone Championship and this Galaxy S thing won, so I figured I'd get that."

No, this is not just some popularity contest. This is a chance for open source devices to stake a claim on the map. It does matter. Go vote. Now.
